Frequently Asked Questions

Are your Christmas trees local and fresh?
Yes, all our trees are grown on the Farm or from nearby growing partners. As we sustainably grow and harvest all our own trees we are continually cutting trees throughout the festive period to ensure they are as fresh as possible and will look perfect in your home.

How long has my tree taken to grow?
We specially select the seeds from the wild or carefully vetted seed orchards. The seeds are grown for four years in a nursery before being planted in the tree fields for a further 8 years (for an average 6-7ft Nordmann Fir). Your tree will therefore have taken approximately 12 years to grow during which time it will have absorbed carbon dioxide and released oxygen which helps fight global warming as well as providing an amazing habitat for indigenous wildlife and insects.

Can you deliver my tree?
Yes, we can deliver locally the tree you have selected. Please ask a member of staff about distances and timings.

How can I pay?
You can pay by cash or card, unfortunately we are unable to accept cheques.

When are you open?
We open seven days a week from Saturday 23 November to Sunday 22 December, 9am – 5pm and late night opening until 8pm on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 November and Thursday 5 (choir night) and Friday 6 December.

Can I contact you?
Yes, please phone or email us – you will find the details on our contact page. We do get very busy during this period so if we don’t answer please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

What variety of tree should I buy?
Different varieties suit different homes and tastes. If you live in a very hot house a non-drop fir would probably be best but if the smell is important to you then you may prefer the more traditional spruce. Please see the Our Trees page for more information or come and visit us and our expert staff can assist in helping you select the perfect tree for you.

How do I look after my Christmas tree?
We would suggest cutting half an inch off the bottom of your tree and standing it in water until you want to bring it indoors. When it does come inside make sure you place it in a stand that can contain water and continue to water it every day – a fresh tree can drink up to a litre a day. Please try to avoid putting it near a fire or radiator as this will dry it out and can cause needle loss. Avoid Instagram fads that tell you to give it hot water or even Coca-Cola – they will not like it!

Why should I buy a real tree?
A real tree is good for the environment and provides shelter and food for so many birds, insects and all manner of wildlife. They are so much better for the environment than plastic trees which are predominantly imported from overseas and have a carbon footprint ten times worse than the burning of a real tree after Christmas. Alternatively, choose a pot-grown tree and bring it in every Christmas and then plant it in your garden after Christmas.

Do you deliver Christmas Trees to Leeds, Wakefield and other areas?
Once you have chosen and paid for your tree, please speak to a member of our team who will help you arrange for your tree to be delivered.

When is the last entry for "cut your own Christmas tree"
The Christmas tree field closes at dusk for Health & Safety reasons. Please ensure that you do not visit too late to avoid disappointment.

Can I visit the Christmas tree farm with my dog?
You are welcome to bring your dog to enjoy the experience. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and please ensure that you clean up after your dog. If visiting with your dog, the best time is during the week as weekends can get quite busy.

Can I get a pot-grown Christmas tree from Methley?

Do you offer Christmas tree rentals?
At the moment we do not offer this service. However, we do sell pot-grown trees which are very popular as they can be replanted outside after Christmas.
